By the Numbers: UFC 314

Alexander Volkanovski defied the odds.

Entering UFC 314 on a two-fight skid, the resilient Aussie reclaimed the featherweight crown, taking a unanimous decision triumph over a game Diego Lopes in Saturday’s headliner at the Kaseya Center in Miami. As a result, Volkanovski enters uncharted territory as 36-year-old champion in a lighter weight class. Lopes, meanwhile, sees a five-bout winning streak snapped in defeat.

7: Title fight wins for Volkanovski, second in UFC featherweight history behind only Jose Aldo (eight).

12: Featherweight wins for Volkanovski, tying him with Andre Fili for fourth most in division history.

158: Significant strikes landed by Volkanovski. By comparison, Lopes landed 63. Volkanovski outlanded Lopes 27 to 8 in Round 1, 24 to 16 in Round 2, 25 to 9 in Round 3, 39 to 16 in Round 4 and 43 to 14 in Round 5.

.610: Significant striking accuracy for Volkanovski, who landed 158 of 259 attempts. Lopes was less effective, landing 63 of 194 attempts — a 32% success rate.

1: Knockdown landed by Lopes. Volkanovski has now been dropped in three consecutive fights. However, the previous two knockdowns — against Ilia Topuria and Islam Makhachev — resulted in defeats for the Aussie.

10: Takedowns defended by Lopes in 11 attempts. Volkanovski secured his lone takedown of the fight in Round 1.

7: Consecutive victories for Paddy Pimblett, the second-longest active winning streak in the UFC’s lightweight division behind reigning champ Islam Makhachev (14). Pimblett defeated Michael Chandler via third-round stoppage in the evening’s co-main event.

69: Significant striking advantage for Pimblett. “The Baddy” held notable advantages against Chandler in significant head strikes (61-6) and ground strikes (33-1).

1-5: Record for Chandler since knocking out Dan Hooker in his UFC debut. Chandler’s lone victory since then was a stoppage of Tony Ferguson in May 2022.

53: Significant strikes by which Yair Rodriguez outlanded Patricio Freire in their featherweight showdown. Rodriguez outlanded the former Bellator champ 11 to 4 in Round 1, 21 to 8 in Round 2 and 38 to 5 in Round 3. Rodriguez landed 70 of 122 attempts, a 57% success rate. Freire, meanwhile, struggled to pull the trigger, as he landed just 17 of 50 significant strikes — a 34% clip.

1-3: Record for Freire since 2023. That was preceded by a stretch where he won 10 of 11 fights from 2017 to 2022.

11: Featherweight victories for Rodriguez, tying him for the fifth most in the history of the division.

5: Consecutive victories inside the distance for Jean Silva, tying him with Steve Garcia for the longest active finishing streak in the UFC. After defeating his first four foes via KO/TKO, “Lord” submitted Bryce Mitchell with a ninja choke on Saturday night. Five is also the total of knockdowns landed by Silva thus far during his promotional tenure.

36: Significant strikes landed by Mitchell. That, surprisingly, surpassed Silva’s total of 27. However, the Brazilian landed the more impactful blows — including the bout’s lone knockdown.

1: Takedown landed in 14 attempts for Mitchell, a 7% success rate.

5: KO/TKO victories for Dan Ige, tying him with Doo Ho Choi for fifth most in UFC featherweight history. Ige defeated Sean Woodson via technical knockout at the 1:12 mark of Round 3.

26: Significant strikes landed by Woodson in Round 1. By comparison, Ige landed 9. In the decisive final stanza, Ige held a 20-to-7 edge in significant strikes landed.

16: Career submission attempts for Virna Jandiroba, tying her with Mackenzie Dern for most in UFC strawweight history. Jandiroba attempted three — including a couple of tight armbars — in a unanimous decision triumph over Xioanan Yan.

21: Career takedowns for Jandiroba, No. 8 all-time at strawweight. The Brazilian contender landed three of 11 attempts against Yan.

5: Consecutive victories for Chase Hooper, who outpointed veteran Jim Miller in a preliminary bout. That ties him with Nasrat Haqparast and Fares Ziam for the third-longest active winning streak in the lightweight division.

8: Takedowns landed in 14 attempts for Hooper, his highest total in 11 UFC appearances. Hooper took Miller down five times in the second stanza alone.

46: Octagon appearances for Miller, who added to his UFC leading total on Saturday. No. 2 Andrei Arlovski, who is no longer in the promotion, has 42.

3: Consecutive first-round finishes in UFC competition for Julian Erosa, who added Darren Elkins to a recent list that also includes Christian Rodriguez and Ricardo Ramos.

41: Significant strike deficit for Elkins, the second-largest of his 30-bout UFC tenure. Jonathan Pearce outlanded “The Damage” by 53 significant strikes in a unanimous decision triumph at UFC on ESPN 42 in December 2022.

28: Octagon appearances at featherweight for Elkins, most in the history of the division. Max Holloway is No. 2 with 27.

7: KO/TKO finishes in UFC competition for Michal Oleksiejczuk, who stopped Sedriques Dumas 2:49 into the opening round of their middleweight bout. The Pole has earned those stoppages at both 185 and 205 pounds.

13: Takedowns successful defended by Su Mudaerji in a split-decision triumph over Mitch Raposo at flyweight. Raposo landed six of 19 attempts but was only able to secure 4:18 of control time in defeat. Mudaerji outlanded his foe 45 to nine in significant strikes and 78 to 13 in total strikes.

77: Significant strikes landed by Marco Tulio in the opening round of his clash against Tresean Gore. That ties him with Deron Winn and Marc-Andre Barriault for the third most in a single round in UFC middleweight history. Only Ryan Janes (97 vs. Andrew Sanchez) and Jared Cannonier (82 vs. Marvin Vettori) have landed more in a frame at 185 pounds.

110: Significant strikes by which Tulio outlanded Gore (127 to 17). That’s the second-largest significant striking differential in UFC middleweight history. Tulio also landed two knockdowns in the bout.
